"Fifties Professionals" brings action and comedy to middle-aged comebacks in 2026 korean drama.
"Fifties Professionals," also known by the native title "오십프로" or "Fifty Percent," is an upcoming South Korean action-comedy series scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2026. The 12-episode drama, directed by Han Dong-hwa and written by Jang Won-seob, follows three legendary professionals in their fifties who once excelled in their fields. After a mysterious incident forces them into quiet lives on the remote Yeongseon Island, they are pulled back into action a decade later to reclaim what they lost and uncover the truth behind their downfall. Blending realistic action with humorous takes on middle-aged life, the series explores themes of second chances and making the most of one's remaining "50 percent."
Ten years after a fateful incident tied to the mysterious "Black Pearl," three extraordinary men now lead ordinary lives on Yeongseon Island.
Jung Ho-myeong, once South Korea’s top black-ops agent with the National Intelligence Service, lives undercover as the head chef at a Chinese restaurant. He has settled into family life with a wife and child, yet he quietly continues searching for the item that ruined his career.
Bong Je-sun, a former North Korean special operative known as “Bulgae” (Fire Dog), washed ashore on the island after a mission gone wrong. Suffering from amnesia, he now works humble jobs, struggling with identity issues and everyday workplace challenges while his lethal past skills occasionally surface.
Kang Beom-ryong, the former No. 2 of the notorious Hwasan gang, runs a struggling convenience store on the island. Framed events led to his boss’s imprisonment, driving him to pursue revenge and the "Black Pearl" while attempting to restore his gang’s honor. As destiny reunites them, the trio must dust off their pro skills – despite the aches and realities of middle age – to confront their shared past.
As the series has not yet aired, early buzz centers on the impressive script reading session, where the cast demonstrated strong chemistry and comedic timing. Viewers and industry observers have expressed excitement over the unique concept of middle-aged "pros" returning to action, with particular anticipation for the blend of salty humor, realistic action, and the lead trio’s performances.
The Korean title "Osippeuro" plays on the words for "50 percent" and "professionals in their 50s," reflecting the theme that life still holds potential regardless of age.
The story highlights sharp contrasts between the characters’ legendary pasts and their mundane presents – such as a deadly agent fixing copiers or a fierce gangster smiling through difficult customers.
Shin Ha-kyun’s character goes undercover as a chef, Oh Jung-se’s amnesiac operative masters taekkyeon in his prime, and Heo Sung-tae’s gangster focuses on sales targets and customer service in his current life.
The production aims for "realistic action" combined with heartfelt and funny depictions of domestic and professional struggles faced by men in their fifties.
"Fifties Professionals" promises a refreshing take on the action-comedy genre by centering seasoned, middle-aged leads who prove that expertise and resilience don’t fade with age. With a talented cast bringing depth and humor to complex characters, the series looks set to deliver both thrilling moments and relatable laughs. It serves as an entertaining reminder that it’s never too late to chase the remaining half of your potential.
The drama will air on MBC every Friday and Saturday at 21:50 starting May 22, 2026.
