Shin Hae-Sun

Shin Hae-sun (born August 31, 1989) is a South Korean actress. She began her career in 2012 and gained prominence through supporting roles in television dramas such as ''Oh My Ghost'' (2015) and ''She Was Pretty'' (2015). Her breakthrough came with the family drama ''Five Enough'' (2016), followed by lead roles in the hit series ''My Golden Life'' (2017–2018) and the historical comedy ''Mr. Queen'' (2020–2021). She has also appeared in films including ''Innocence'' (2020) and ''Following'' (2024). Shin Hae-sun is known for her versatile portrayals across genres, from romance and fantasy to thriller and mystery.

Early life and education

Shin Hae-sun was born on August 31, 1989, in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea. She has an older sister. Inspired by actor Won Bin's performance in the drama ''Autumn in My Heart'' (2000), she developed an interest in acting and enrolled in the Film Art program at Sejong University, where she earned a bachelor's degree. Prior to university, she attended Konkuk University College of Education Affiliated Middle School and Seoul Gugak Arts High School, majoring in the Music Theater Department.

Career

Debut and early roles (2012–2015)

Shin Hae-sun made her acting debut in a supporting role as a student named Shin Hae-sun in the high school drama ''School 2013'' (2012–2013). She continued with minor parts, including a young version of a character in ''Angel Eyes'' (2014) and a supporting role as Go Yoon-joo in the romantic comedy ''High School King of Savvy'' (2014). In 2015, she appeared in the Vietnamese-Korean co-production ''Forever Young'' (2014–2015) as Han Mi-so and took on supporting roles in the supernatural comedy ''Oh My Ghost'' as Kang Eun-hee and in the romantic comedy ''She Was Pretty'' as Han Seol, a beauty assistant.

Rise to prominence (2016–2019)

Shin Hae-sun's career gained momentum in 2016 with her first leading role as Lee Yeon-tae, a naive and romantic character, in the family drama ''Five Enough'', opposite Sung Hoon. That year, she also played Cha Si-ah in the fantasy romance ''The Legend of the Blue Sea'', alongside Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun. In 2017, she portrayed Mi-kyung in the mystery thriller film ''A Day'' and Young Eun-soo in the crime thriller series ''Stranger'' (Season 1), with Jo Seung-woo and Bae Doo-na; she later made a cameo in Season 2 (2020).

Her first major leading role came in the family drama ''My Golden Life'' (2017–2018), where she played Seo Ji-an, a woman searching for her biological family. The series achieved high ratings and marked a turning point in her career. In 2018, Shin Hae-sun starred as Yun Sim-deok, Korea's first Western-trained soprano, in the biographical drama special ''The Hymn of Death'', opposite Lee Jong-suk, and as Woo Seo-ri, an aspiring violinist in a coma, in the romantic comedy ''Still 17'', alongside Yang Se-jong. The following year, she led the fantasy romance ''Angel's Last Mission: Love'' as ballerina Lee Yeon-seo, who is uninterested in love, opposite Kim Myung-soo.

Film debut and recent works (2020–present)

Shin Hae-sun made her feature film debut in 2020 with the leading role of lawyer Ahn Jung-in in the legal drama ''Innocence'', defending her mother (played by Bae Jong-ok) in a high-profile case. That year, she also starred as art curator Yoon Se-hee in the heist film ''Collectors'', alongside Lee Je-hoon. On television, she took on a dual role as Queen Cheorin (Kim So-yong) and a modern chef's soul (Jang Bong-hwan) in the historical comedy ''Mr. Queen'', which became a ratings success.

In 2023, Shin Hae-sun appeared in the reincarnation fantasy ''See You in My 19th Life'' as Ban Ji-eum, a woman who remembers her past lives and reconnects with a former love (played by Ahn Bo-hyun). She followed with the lead in the romantic drama ''Welcome to Samdal-ri'' as photographer Cho Sam-dal, who returns to her hometown and rekindles a romance with childhood friend Cho Yong-pil (Ji Chang-wook). In film, she played Jang Soo-hyun in the thriller ''Target'' (also known as ''Don't Buy the Seller'') and teacher So Si-min in the action drama ''Brave Citizen''.

In 2024, Shin Hae-sun starred in the identity-swap mystery drama ''Dear Hyeri'' as the dual characters Joo Eun-ho and Joo Hye-ri, and led the thriller film ''Following'' as Han So-ra. Other projects include the crime mystery drama ''The Art of Sarah'' (2026), where she plays Sarah Kim, a luxury brand director entangled in a murder investigation with a hidden past, opposite Lee Jun-hyuk as detective Mu Gyeong; and the audit thriller ''Secret Gratitude'' (also known as ''Secret Audit'', 2026) as Joo In-ah. She is also set to appear in the romance film ''One Twenty-Fourth Romance'' (also known as ''1/24'', TBA) as Cha Ju-an.

Shin Hae-sun has hosted events such as the 2018 SBS Drama Awards (with Shin Dong-yup and Lee Je-hoon) and the 2019 KBS Drama Awards (with Jeon Hyun-moo). She hosted the first episode of ''Saturday Night Live Korea'' Season 11 in 2021 and has narrated documentaries including episodes of ''Hope for Children in Global Village'' (2018) and ''Meeting You'' (2024).

Personal life

In 2024, she received a Presidential Commendation from the National Tax Service for exemplary taxpayer compliance.
