Park Seo-joon (born Park Yong-kyu on December 16, 1988) is a South Korean actor. He rose to prominence with leading roles in television series such as "Fight for My Way" (2017), "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" (2018), "Itaewon Class" (2020), and "Gyeongseong Creature" (2023–2024). He has also starred in films including "Midnight Runners" (2017) and "Concrete Utopia" (2023), and made his Hollywood debut in "The Marvels" (2023).

Early life and education

Park Seo-joon was born in Seoul. During middle school, he joined an animation club and performed in annual productions, sparking his interest in acting. He later studied in the Acting Department at Seoul Institute of the Arts. He experienced bullying in school.

Military service

In 2008, Park Seo-joon enlisted in the Republic of Korea Army for active duty, serving in the Security Guard Battalion at Cheongju Correctional Facility until 2010.

Career

Debut and breakthrough

Park Seo-joon debuted in 2011 with a role in the music video "I Remember" by Bang Yong-guk and Yang Yo-seob. He appeared in supporting roles in dramas such as "Dream High 2" (2012), "Pots of Gold" (2013), and "One Warm Word" (2013). His first leading role was in "A Witch's Love" (2014). From 2013 to 2015, he co-hosted "Music Bank".Breakthrough came in 2015 with "Kill Me, Heal Me" and "She Was Pretty", followed by his film debut in "The Chronicles of Evil". He gained further acclaim for "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth" (2016–2017), "Fight for My Way" (2017), and "Midnight Runners" (2017). In 2018, "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" established him in romantic comedies.

2020s and international work

Park Seo-joon starred in "Itaewon Class" (2020) and made a cameo in "Parasite" (2019). He appeared in variety shows including "Youn's Kitchen" (2018), "In the Soop: Friendcation" (2022), and "Jinny's Kitchen" (2023–2024). In 2023, Park Seo-joon featured in "Dream", "Concrete Utopia", and "The Marvels" as Prince Yan.He portrayed Jang Tae-sang in "Gyeongseong Creature" (2023–2024), reuniting with Han So-hee for season 2 and experimenting with a new acting style for the character Ho-jae, emphasizing their strong on-set teamwork. In 2025–2026, he lead "Surely Tomorrow" as journalist Lee Gyeong-do opposite Won Ji-an as Seo Ji-woo, describing their rekindled romance with the keyword "love" and praising her performance. He made a special appearance in "Bloodhounds 2" (2026), reuniting with director Kim Joo-hwan. Other recent works include the music video "Ice Cream" (2024) by Jeon Somi and a cameo in "Meet, Greet & Bye" (2025).

Personal life

In 2023, actor donated ₩100 million to earthquake relief efforts.His agency pursued legal action against a restaurant for unauthorized use of his image from "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim", resulting in a partial court win awarding 5 million won in damages.
